Project 365 Days 065-073

What a fun week of image captures.  It has been a lot about capturing interesting items and fun.

1st 365 065-365

This fan has been around me since I was a tiny baby.  My parents got it in Japan when we lived there for a while.  I love it and am sad to say it is deteriorating along with its companion parasol.  The holes are getting way to big and the paper is super crackly and fragile.  Do you think it might preserve it if I dipped it in lacquer?   Maybe keep it in the open position and cut off the handle?  :-)

1st 365 066-365

I saw this Christmas tree in my friends yard.  It has passed its usefulness.  The friend in question and I were spending a couple hours together before she moved across country so it also symbolized the end of this phase of our relationship.  The same day Madison also told me she really missed her Christmas and wanted it to be Christmas time again.  So sweet.

1st 367 065-365

These two are sitting on one foot  pad of our elliptical machine.  They share it all the time  cuddled together making it go back and forth or as they eat a snack.  Sometimes one or the other will put their around their twin to cuddle him/her closer.  The way Maddie is looking at Blake here expresses their love of each other and sitting on the elliptical.

1st 368 065-365 / Project 52 – Theme: Soothing Repetitions

I love cereal and I want it every day.  YUM.  It soothes me to have a bowl of this yummy stuff daily.

1st 365 069-365

A few weeks ago I bought a wide lens to use for weddings and ‘Big’ portrait shots.  Wide isn’t a really something I get into shooting too much so it is now on my camera for a while to get me more into the interesting perspective shooting wide can bring.  This shot is my new shell & coral display in the master bath.  It’s so much better then the giant glass plate with it all thrown together on it.

1st 365 070-365

On the way home from shopping then lunch with friends it was my job to keep the kids entertained so they didn’t fall asleep thus ruining their naps.  As you can see, I rock at it!

1st 365 071-365

My self portrait at church during my class.  Only three of my cuties were there to teach, and these are our silly faces.

1st 365 072-365

The tickle monster strikes again.  Every day!

1st 365 073-365

My future decorator?  She is loving looking at these paint idea brochures I picked up.

365 & 52 update for days 51-54

I’m working hard on getting a website set up just for clients!  It will have some great information and all the forms in one place making it easy.

Tomorrow I promise to get some images up on this blog from at least one recent session.  It’s been a while.

1st 365 051-365

This image was taken during a quite moment with Madison in my lap.  The light was all soft coming in the window on a gloomy day.  I love the way it looks like it was taken with a film camera.  Some of my favorite recent pictures have this lovely film look to them.

1st 365 052-365

Project 52 week 2 image – Prompt : Song lyrics interpreted in an image

We sing a lot of songs in our house.  We love to listen to the radio, my Ipod and the kids Ipod.  Each night we sing songs before saying prayers as part of our bed time routine.  Madison always picks Ba Ba Black Sheep, but we also almost always sing Families Can Be Together Forever.  The part I wanted to capture in an image is: I want to spend my life with them through all eternity.  People give us a hard time because we always have our kids with us and pretty much only get a babysitter if we are both working.  We love it this way.  I really want to spend my time with them, and we are enjoying some popcorn as we watched TV here.

1st 365 053-365

Playing in the snow!  It is my little snow lovers favorite thing right now.  This snow didn’t last long, but little girl made the best of the few minutes she had while it was falling.

1st 365 054-365

My sick babies got a real treat today when I let them take a nap in mommy and daddy’s bed.  They rushed to grab their sleeping stuffed animals and jumped into our bed.  A while back we switched our bed from the headboard being between the two windows to a wall perpendicular to the windows.  The side lighting is exactly what I love about the new arrangement.  Only a photographer would make such a change just for better bed shots!

Day 50 of 365 project

Wow, it is already day 50 of my project!  I feel so accomplished already.  It has been so much fun making sure I take at least one image a day.  This past week I’ve been sick or I would have started my goal to include one self portrait a week just to practice those.  It is not something easy for me to do for several reasons.  Focus seems to be my biggest concern since I like a shallow depth of field to most of my images with the main focus on the subjects eyes.  There isn’t an easy way to do that in a self portrait.  It should be a bit easier when my new wide angle lens arrives next week!   The sale of the 17-55mm DX lens not made for my new camera finally went through after 3 weeks of back and forth emails and an e-check which took forever to clear.  Those funds were put to good use today when I ordered a new Nikon 20mm lens with a UV filter and a spiffy new camera strap.

With the next four images posting my project online is all caught up!  Woooo Hoooo!  Now it is time to stay on top of it with a goal to post a few times a week.  Also, now that these posts are caught up I’ll be sharing my portrait work again.

1st 365 047-365

Coral and shells have always fascinated me in a home.  For a long time I felt most of the pieces we had were too small to display individually or in a collection.  With the addition of this nice piece of coral from a recent trip to the beach the displays are looking much better.   It’s so amazing to incorporate pieces that mean something and bring back memories into our home decorations.  Guy and I do like a more minimalistic approach to decorating in general, but our home is pretty small so it still feels cluttered most of the time.

1st 365 048-365

Miss Maddie is quite the girl who loves to wear dresses and knows when she is putting on something special.  She loves to wear these boots.  We had a good time watching her walk around the grocery store pretty much the whole time so she could experience the look and feel of those boots on her feet.

1st 365 049-365

These two prefer a bath with bubbles over a boring old shower any day.  Mom and dad aren’t the biggest fans since we are constantly telling them to stop splashing water out or throwing one of the ball pit balls that somehow made their way into the tub at the other.   Ah, the sacrifices we make in order for our kids to have a great time in their daily life.  A shower sure is quicker and less messy.

1st 365 050-365

Another item added to my list today of things to improve in our home this year is replacing this pitiful mailbox.  With all that rust I don’t think it’s possible to repaint it!  I noticed it when I thought of taking an image for this project of my Netflix return in the mailbox ready to go out into the world before another lovely takes its place.  Netflix wasn’t something I wanted, but it is definitely something I’ve come to enjoy especially with wanting to watch Grey’s Anatomy from the beginning.  A new Grey’s DVD arrives every couple weeks between other selections which keeps me occupied when I work.  The kids call it the Doctor shows.

Project 265 big update 2

Yesterday a friend of mine dropped by to bring me a couple backdrops she had and pick up some props to use for a newborn shoot she has coming up.  I love having friends that are photographers.  We get to chat about all things photography without boring the pants off of someone!  :-)   It was fun to show her my new sheepskins that were a gift from my sister in law, but I forgot to show her my cool background hanging system in the dining area.   Stay tuned for images of it.

My voice was almost gone yesterday from this snotty snot fest my head and chest are working on lately, and poor Madison thought I said Daddy was coming over instead of Tammy.  When she ran to the door and saw Tammy through the side window she said it wasn’t Daddy and promptly burst into tears.  This in turn woke up Blake a bit early from his nap.  It was a big of DRAMA for the first few minutes Tammy was here as they both calmed down.  The joy of 2 year olds crazy mood swings.

As promised, here is the rest of the catch up of images from my 365 project.

1st 365 021/365

Blake hanging out while I’m getting the studio setup ready for a client.

1st 365 022/365

We were in the doctors office waiting and waiting so we had lots of time to play, cuddle the anticipation of shots away and generally let the kids go wild in their underwear.  Madison is our cuddler girl, but generally only when she wants a cuddle.  I was happy to get one here for this image.

1st 365 023/365

The kids LOVE to pretend drive the cars after we get out of a movie.  I think we had just seen Tangled {Love} here.   It is pretty funny to watch them.  One of these days they are going to start asking us for money to play them for rea.  Ummmm, they will probably never get a yes from me on that one.

1st 365 024/365

One of the first images with my Nikon D700.  The camera is all it was touted to be, and I can’t wait to learn more of it’s capabilities.  On a side note.  We love these 16 oz water bottles we picked up at WalMart for a $1 each.  I can see how much water the kids are drinking each day at about 32 oz each most days.   The pop tops are also super convenient for throwing them in a bag and traveling.

1st 365 025/365

Madison holding my hand as we watched the Christmas program at our church Christmas party.

1st 365 026/365

Blake taking medicine for his minor cold.  I love capturing every day momentss.

1st 365 027/365

My girl in her prized ‘kini’ underwear.  This kids is just as funny as I am that absolutely nothing be worn higher then the bikini line.  Sometimes her pants are so gangster when she pulls them down to the ‘right’ place just above her hips.  Woe is me if the 80′s high waisted pants ever fully come back in style were the low waisted stuff isn’t available anymore.

1st 365 028/365

Why get up when you can use your go go gadget arms to reach something?   I’m impressed that a few of the toys we’ve gotten them are actually helping them to learn their letters individually by site.

1st 365 029/365

Crying in images is still gorgeous to me.  It happens so why not get it on film?

1st 365 030/365

Ah, I love the affection.  Blake is the king of randomly showing affection to us throughout each day.  We hope it never changes though I’m sure it will.

1st 365 031/365

The ornament was a gift from the lovely ladies I work with at church in the primary program to teach our children.

1st 365 032/365

I got my hair highlighted this day, and the kids got a haircut.   Madison was so happy to be treated to such a special event.  Here hair stays so much nicer throughout the day now.  It will be fabulous when those short ‘bangs’ of hers finally grow out.  The hair there just seems to never grow.

1st 365 033/365

Doesn’t this watermellon look tasty?  It wasn’t.  It was squishy and bad and smelled like a processed piece of candy in a wierd way.  Hopefully the next one will be much better.

1st 365 034/365

These two little beauties complete my collection of new diapers for baby boy White.  With the twins we used cloth at home and disposables on the go.  This time we’ll still use cloth at home and this hybrid diaper for on the go.  It can be used with cloth inserts Or with disposable inserts.  I’m so excited to have a less wastefull option for our out and about journeys.  The inserts do cost more then disposable diapersat about $0.25 each, but the amount and type of waste are much less hazardous for our landfills.  They are also super cute.

1st 365 035/365

As we were doing our last minute packing for the trip to Utah, Blake slaps this hat on his head saying he needs a hat to go see Poppy.   I don’t think he realized yet we weren’t going somewhere warmer…

1st 365 036/365

My adorable boy all buckled into his carseat on the plane sitting next to his daddy while snuggling his bear.   This is the face of a content boy looking towards a new adventure.  He was so funny when we got to our home airport on Sunday.  We were talking about how we would be home soon after we picked our luggage up from the lockup.  He looked at Guy and said, “Can we get back on a plane and go somewhere else?”   Love it!

1st 365 037/365

My sister in law who just welcomed her second daughter in under two years after 14 years of waiting and wanting to have a child.  I’m so thrilled for her.  We loved getting to meet both girls on this trip which just goes to show it had been way to long since the last one!

1st 365 038/365

Every time we visit in the winter we rally all the siblings and their kids to join us on a sledding adventure.  After a bit of effort we finally found a place to go.  Our kids took to sledding with gusto and all of us throughly enjoyed the adventure.  I even went down a few times making sure to not do anything to harm my pregnancy.

1st 365 039/365

The mountain views from just about anywhere in the vally are always impressive.  It’s especially fun when the clouds are busy playing peek a boo all around us.

1st 365 040/365

Marci is always up for a few images to capture her current look.  I’m so grateful to her and Karissa {both nieces} for coming down to babysit the kids in the morning so we could visit the Mount Timpanogus temple there with Guy’s parents.

1st 365 041/365

Sweet baby girl going to the doctor for her two month check up while we were there.  Babies surely do love their mirror time.  I need to get a nice big one for baby boy to look at when he gets here.  Maybe it builds early self esteeme.

1st 365 042/365

My wonderful mother in law {mum} getting some rare cuddle time with on the go Blake while the rest of us adults and Madison were playing Wii.  Notice the remote in his hands.  He had to have one at all times the Wii game was on.

1st 365 043/365

This poor boy in pink here with his grandpa and grammy had just messed his third set of clothes up on our trip home this day.  Throwing up is not a thing I tolerate well at all so thankfully he picked Guy and the floor to chuck up on the two times he did it.  Delta granted us permission to delay our flight {not with our bags which went to lock up in Raleigh} so we could go home with my family to wash up.  Thanks to him we got an extra little 2 day vacation in Atlanta out of our trip to Utah.  The parents were already at the airport since we had planned on them spending time with us during our layover.

1st 365 044/365

Yummy spaghetti in our tummy.

1st 365 045/365

A quick image of my sweet little/big sister.  It’s funny, my older sister is much shorter then me so she always called me her little/big sister.  Now I have the same thing with my baby sister.

1st 365 046/365

With the new year has come a desire to change things up in our house.  We feel like we are going to be in our tiny house for a while longer and really want to make some changes to make it a home we love to live in.  We have been treating it as just a nice place we live and not a home we love.  Here is an accesory in our house I actually don’t mind  keeping though I’d like to get rid of at least 1/2 of the acceosories to be replaced by things that really represent us and our design athstetic.  We’ll go slow though and do some reasearch before making any purchases.

Ginourmous 365 project update

I’ve organized all of my 365 images today.   There were only 3 days of missing images which was waaaayyy less then I thought there would be.  I don’t know about you, but I tend to exagerate my shortcomings, missteps or failings in my mind.

Here are images from the first 20 days with comments.  They may not be the exact same images I chose the first time, but a girl can change her mind.

1st 365 project 001/365

I loved this image of Cora.  It actually didn’t make the cut to be included in the proofs from the families mini session, but I kept coming back to it as one of my favorite shots of the day.  There is just something so sweet in her expression.

1st 365 project 002/365

Newborn photo shoots!  They pretty much all make my heart swoon in delight at the artsy and precious images we photographers are able to capture in those first few days of life.  If it weren’t for the potential ‘up all night’ thing birth photography can mean I’d be all over it.  Maybe when my kids get a little older I’ll want to tackle the logistics of birth photography.

1st 365 project 003/365

My girl just standing there as she models the hat and scarf I made her.  Too bad it is yet again too big as the yarn settles.  I even took out quite a few stitches from the pattern while making it to make it smaller.  It will still be cute in a few years when her head is bigger!

1st 365 project 004/365

Part of the absolutely amazing view we have when we stay in Miami!  We like the area more and more each time we go.

1st 365 project 005/365

The kids HAD to have a birthday party for my mom who met us in Miami.  They {mostly Maddie} talked about it non stop whenever we talked about going.  We got party favors, a cake and some balloons to surprise her with.  They even went the whole time from meeting her at the airport to walking in the door with her without telling my mom about her surprise party.  Pretty impressive for 2 year olds.   The image of them is a Christmas tree ornament for her from us.

1st 365 project 006/365

Blake was in love with the 5 monster trucks my mom brought him though he consented to let Madison play with the pink one.  He is telling me here he doesn’t want to put them down for whatever I wanted him to do instead {probably eat}.

1st 365 project 007/365

We let the kids do the driving on the Disney Magic Kingdom raceway.  Both of them did great until they got distracted.  It was the one ride we went on twice during our visit that day.  My girl was so thrilled to be racing along.

1st 365 project 008/365

While I was letting the kids nap in one spot of shade about 2 feet wide at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Guy created his own shade a few feet away for his own siesta. I’m pretty sure that fake rock was about a 1000 degrees under his back. Whatever works…

1st 365 project 009/365

It would be amazing to live in a climate where I could grow orchids easily.  They are such wonderful flowers.

1st 365 project 010/365

I love to see the way Guy reacts to the kids every day activities.  There is no doubt my man adores his children.  Maybe because we had so much trouble having children we tend to appreciate and cherish the time we get to spend with our kids.  We’d rather take them to dinner and the movies then hire a sitter for us to go alone.  The same for going on trips.  We love to spend time together as a family.  We had years of spending time doing things with just us as a couple.

1st 365 project 011/365

When I booked this session I didn’t realize they spoke mostly Spanish at home.  I definitely would have learned a few pertinant phrases ahead of time to capture their attention as I normally do.  These boys were adorable and definitely ended up responding to me.  I loved both the parents open and direct personalities {my favorite kind of people!}.

1st 365 project 012/365

This image was a great moment caught of the girls playing around when they thought they weren’t going to be in any images.  I love playing with color and textures, but only on certain images that capture my imagination.  This one definitely did.

1st 365 project 013/365

She doesn’t give me this smile all the time so it was a blessing to capture it during one of our drives home {we split it into two days}.

1st 365 project 014/365

My boy messin around with a hat.  He thinks they are really cool.

1st 365 project 015/365

We put up our tree the day after getting home from Florida.  The kids loved helping put on the ornaments and we only had 2 or 3 break during the whole season.  They were delighted with the tree each and every day.

1st 365 project 016/365

Our tickets to Harry Potter.  Blake stood up when the credits started to tell the audience {yes turned and faced the rest of the audience} that it was a great movie, it was time to go and to move it.  And to think, sometimes he plays shy with people.

1st 365 project 017/365

The kids came along on a photo shoot with me and patiently waited off to the side while we took the kids images.  It was a shoot for a friend and the only time we could schedule it ASAP to get her Christmas cards back in time to send out.  I loved Madison’s outfit that day.  Blake’s outfit is makeshift because he peed his pants right as we pulled up to the location.

1st 365 project 018/365

Their first real snow experience.  From this moment on Madison has been in love with the snow and wants to make snowballs anytime we’ve been around snow since.  I think we have a real winter lover in her.

1st 365 project 019/365

I love being able to teach at church.  Last year my kids were all 4 turning 5 and this year we are still going to be together.  Here are the girls coloring about the lesson we learned that day.

1st 365 project 020/365

Madison was having a bad day {hence the lack of pants}, and talking on the phone to her grandma and nanny cheered her right up.

My 365 project

I’ve been taking images for my 365 project again.  It’s such an amazing thing.  I’m thinking, though, that I might move posting those images over to my personal blog.  Or maybe I’ll post them on both since they don’t have the same readers.  Any thoughts?

On December 1st we went to see Harry Potter!  The kids had no problem sitting through it with only one trip to the potty in 2 1/2 hours.  If you haven’t known me long, it’s important to note we have a Harry Potter connection.  Just after becoming engaged we saw a preview for the movie which was to come out on our wedding day.  We joked for so long about seeing the movie on our wedding we decided to make it a reality.  We had a private immediate family {not all could attend} ceremony, went out to dinner as a group and then attended the movie before heading to our hotel.  The next day we had a reception at my moms house then headed off for a week at Disneyland and Vegas before having a second reception in Utah with the rest of Guy’s family.  We think it’s quite funny and ironic that of all the shows and movies we watch the kids have a special connection to Harry Potter as well.  As the credits started at the end of the movie Blake got up and announced loudly, “It’s over people, time to go, it was a Great movie.”

Our Christmas tree is filled with some very old family ornaments and a few pretty ornaments to make the tree come together.  Each year it is wonderful to hang all of these memories both old and new.  The finished tree was waiting for us when we arrived home from our trip to Miami.  All of us have enjoyed the lit tree each evening since returning home.

Blake is so affectionate.  The only time we could schedule a friend trade session for her to get her Christmas cards back in time for sending out was a day and time Guy wasn’t available to watch the kids.  My kids tagged along.  The kids all had a great time playing when we were between shots and when we finished.  Blake was sitting with Adam and spontaneously got up to kiss him on the cheek.  He reminds us all the time to be more affectionate and appreciate each other.

We had a great early first snow on Saturday.  The day was filled with family, a great 2011 Senior session, good naps, a bounce house birthday party, their first trip to a real toy store and going out to dinner.  On our way out of the party the kids explored the snow, retaining a death grip on their gift bags, and Guy showed them how fun throwing snow balls is.  Blake’s pants show the snowball that hit him and Maddie is being hit by a snowball in this image.  I love their faces.

Interesting week

I thought I’d share the newest images in my 365 project today.  Around here, I’ve been busy with a private photography class {so fun!}, rearranging everything in the house, my first OB appointment of this pregnancy, booking sessions, enjoying all the rain and spending a lot of time with my family.

Day 4 Inspiration: The rainy day inspired my kids to line up these dolls on the porch steps while playing in the rain.  It was hilarious to see this after they came in and cleaned up the other toys.  Maybe they thought the dolls needed some water.

Day 5 Inspiration: It is still raining.  Oh joy and love!  I loved this line of blocks my kids created on the table and the reflection.  Rainy days always get me reflecting on past awesome rainy days in my life.

Day 6 Inspiration: Teaching.  I love to teach and am still completely happy with the decision to branch out my business a little to offer both mentoring for new photographers and classes for others.  My student this day wanted to learn more about photographing her 3 year old so we used my twins during part of our lesson to give her tips and tricks in working with this age group.  It is amazing to watch the personal revelations my students have as they really get something new!

Day 7 Inspiration: Watching my daughter cuddle up to her daddy while he is watching TV.  She sits there completely relaxing every muscle in her body.  Even when I pull the camera out {normally insert cheesy smile in excitement} she looks at me with partially shuttered eyes.  I love to see this love and trust of family in action.

Day 8 Inspiration: Yep, raining!  Still love it.  This day I noticed all of the gorgeous colors in the soft light of the rainy day everywhere I looked.  Fields of pale yellow wildflowers barely noticeable in the full sun were brightly shining.

Day 9 Inspiration: My spare bed where I rested my poor pregnant body while my twins napped in their room 14 feet away through the open doors.  The windows were open, the temperature perfect and the bed comfy.  Naps are not usually a good thing for me, but this day one was amazing.

Day 10 Inspiration: Getting some computer time after a hectic day to edit the images from the last few days, get them uploaded and blog away before bed while watching a movie with my husband.
