Cute cloth diaper boy

I recently did a gift mini newborn session for some friends of ours.  Is there such a thing as a mini newborn session in time?  I’m not sure.  Babies tend to have their own schedules and their own preferences from birth.  His mom warned me he wasn’t much of a sleeper.  The beautiful artistic and adorable newborn images us photographers create are all about a super sleepy newborn.

Isn’t little Lucas adorable with his pouty lips and cloth diaper!

Newborns are just so perfectly new.

Daddy has the same job as my Guy, and they brought this adorable car to use with his shoot.   He would let us get him settled to sleep once we got him in position for one shot.  Then he would wake right up.  This session was the fewest shots I’ve ever taken of a newborn.  Luckily just about every single shot was one we loved.  The blue is one of my new backdrops, and I applied a texture to the background when editing.

Having him in mom and dad’s hands shows how tiny {and big} he is.  This one is definitely my favorite of the day.  I’m so glad Lucas let us settle him back down to sleep more then 6 times!

Speaking of babies.  We are hoping to find out if we are expecting a boy or girl on the 15!  I’ll be 17 out of 40 weeks along then.  My belly is definitely a baby belly now.

Awesome day yesterday

Most of my day yesterday was spent with April Ladd of April Smiles Photography.  She is a newer photographer just getting started with her photography business.  She signed up for a mentoring session with me.  It was fantastic.  I love to share my knowledge with people, and she was the most receptive student I’ve ever had in anything I’ve taught in my life.  Her brain has a wonderful capacity for learning and retaining information quickly.

April has a sweet southern voice that comes along with a great personality. When I opened the door to my home to greet her it was like meeting an old friend. She was also super excited for me after learning about our miraculous spontaneous pregnancy. Her husband works a full time job and works as a volunteer fire fighter. They have an adorable 3 year old son too. She has dedicated herself to learning as much as she can in the short time since she purchased her DSLR camera. I think this dedication will serve her well in his dream of building a successful photography business allowing her to stay home with her child and provide an income for her family. So many of us {me included} want to make sure we are taking care of our families needs both emotionally and financially as pursue the dream of making a living with our art.

Our shoot was so much fun.  Here are a three images April took of our adorable baby model, Ryan and his parents.  Urban settings are so much fun with families.

Ryan showing off his adorable naked self.  He was great.  It was so funny trying to get his attention.  He was either fully engaged with us or fully ignoring us.  I’ve never seen a baby quite like him.  He also has the coolest hair.  The ends are darker then the roots!

The warehouse we got permission to shoot in was pretty cool.  There were these large skylights we used to create a moody couple shot.

All their loving feelings definitely shine through on this image.

I can’t wait to see what other new things April shows off.

Here are a few of my images from our shoot.    I love this blanket for its heirloom qualities.  They will no doubt still have this blanket in 20 years and still have an image from this shoot featured in their home.  Family items like this make excellent props in a shoot.

Ryan loved smiling right into the camera.  I think he’s going to be a major charmer when he grows up.

I love Allison’s face in this image.  It was taken just a fraction of a second before April’s above.  They are both perfect in their own way with her smiling at Ryan in April’s image and at her husband in this one.

This is an outtake.  I plan on showing more of these as there are often quite a few interesting or eventful moments during a shoot.  Here we had little Ryan in those cute blue undies to show off his perfect baby skin with no diaper on.  Well, you guessed it, he totally peed.  Rich is holding him out enough so that he will not get it all over more then just his arm.  With a few minutes and a few wipes we were all back to business.  :-)

One of Arpil’s requests was to work with challenging light.  We placed Allison & Rich in several places where the light would be more difficult.  This image is definitely one of my favorites from those.

Silhouettes are so much fun.  It’s easy to take a crazy bad light spot and turn it into something cool.  Her hairpiece totally works to define and give a little attitude.

I can’t wait for the next photographer who wants to do a mentoring session with me!

Meet Emily & Drew.  They are super adorable twins anxiously awaited for by their parents.  They were full term HUGE twins with her over 8 lbs. and he was almost 8 lbs.  Yes, add that up to 16 pounds of baby weight alone.
They were so sweet to work with today.  Little Miss also was a rock star at holding her head up.  There are many more images I can’t wait to show mom & dad.

Back in town from Miami!

Much of my updating of late has been on Facebook.  I love Facebook.  It is such a great way to stay connected with family, friends and clients!  It is amazing how many business details I take care of on Facebook.  If you are not yet on Facebook I highly recommend it.  If you are I’d love to have you ‘Like’ {formerly follow} the Lifelong Impressions fan page.

We had such a wonderful trip.  It started by a visit to my family in Marietta, GA.  Then we headed down to Tampa, FL to visit one of Guy’s many sisters.  Miami was out main stop with a stay in a gorgeous condo overlooking the Port of Miami and South Beach.  The whole place and experience was fantastic.  I had three great sessions while we were there, and met some great new friends.  Lukily we thought ahead to bring our bikes along and were able to enjoy three bike rides all around the area we stayed.  An old friend of mine happened to be staying in Miami not two miles away so they came over our last night to hang out for a while.  The kids were on their most charming behavior with Madison singing her good night song, I Am a Child of God, the best she ever has.  We also decided to break up our drive home from Miami to Raleigh with a stop at Universal Studios.  We all had a great time at Universal.  The kids are luckily quite tall for their age {about 36 inches} and got to ride on all the little kid rides.   No matter how great a trip is, we are all very happy to be home.

Here is the adorable Jelly!  She turned two yesterday so her session was on her birthday!  Lucky.

And here is the adorable smile girl!  Ah, newborns are so awesome!!!

The lovely weather continues

The weather has been nice to us lately.  There have been so many days we’ve been able to have the windows open all day.  Sometimes I wish it was 70 all year round, but then I would miss the hot & cold. Hmmm, maybe not that much.  :-)
Check out these adorable twin girls!  They are three month old cuties who smiled just enough for us.  I can’t wait to share all the great images including a few of big brother.
We moved the shoot from the late afternoon to this morning, because the weather reports looked horrible for today.  Then we had no rain.  Guy is still sitting here all upset about the lack of rain.  He loves a good rain as much as I do!
Extended families are a blast to shoot.  This group is one of the smaller extended families I’ve had in front of the camera.  We got some interesting urban shots then headed to Historic Oak View Park for some green shots.  I love this shot with the pinky warm light of the setting sun on their faces.  Cute little Cole is out for the count in his mama’s arms.
Here he is wide awake during the urban part of our shoot.  Everyone was a blast to work with.  There is just something wonderful about a red door.  It went so well with the blues.
When we moved to Raleigh from Phoenix I met our neighbor Michelle. We ended up doing a photo shoot with her two boys the next day as a surprise for her husband who loves UNC!  They have had an image of the boys at the UNC well hanging above their fireplace ever since.  About 5 photo shoots later it was time to head to UNC again for an updated image including all three boys.  I have loved getting to know them and Tim is a fantastic dentist.  Definitely consider him if you are needing a dentist in the Garner {40/42} area.
I am super in love with this image and think they will be too.  These boys are ALL boys.  They have tons of energy and love each other so much.  In fact, when we met at their house before the shoot, I found out they often have sleepovers with each other by making a pallet on the floor in the living room.  How cute is that?!!
