It feels a little like Fall

Wow, the first few days of cooler temperatures has arrived.  It feels fantastic!  As my 3 year old Madison says, “It’s  chiwli,”  with a delighted grin on her face.  Along with fall comes the great family session event, as I like to call it.  This is the season which many clients love the best and want to capture images of their family wearing adorable layers of clothes in snuggly scenes.  It’s the time of year we imagine ourselves starting to feast on warm soups and stews along with yummy hot chocolate on chilly days.  Yay, us!  I can’t wait to photograph the lovely families that are on the books.

Halloween is also right around the corner.  We are certainly all busy picking out what we want to be for Halloween.  Madison is all set since her beautiful costume from last year fits perfect this year.  This year instead of being a pirate lady she’ll be a princess with it!   Last year Blake was a pirate, but this year he wants to be some kind of superhero!   Here is an image of the twins from last years Halloween dress up mini sessions.

Speaking of Halloween sessions…  It is definitely that time of year and it is time for you to schedule yours.  Give me a call or send an email to set up your appointment.  919-585-6433 or shannon@lifelongimpressions.com

Sister Sister

Hello everyone!  It’s been a while since I’ve blogged regularly.  Not having a computer for a while when we were in Phoenix, some home improvements and getting ready for baby definitely took up a lot of my time.  Speaking of baby we have about 7 weeks left until he arrives.  I am booking appointments with the understanding that if labor occurs we will reschedule.  I will only be taking two sessions per week for the next few months with some weeks already booked out or unavailable.  If you are interested in a spring session it would best to book it very soon for any time between now and mid June.

Here are some images of my baby sister who just started college this year.  We got to see her for a few days when Blake unexpectedly got sick on our flight home and we ran out of clothing changes at our layover in Atlanta where she lives.  They took us home for a few days for a lovely visit!

I love her soulful brown eyes.  Brown eyes rock!

We added a couple of small images to our fireplace mantle of Blake and Madison.  We have a large one on another wall with Blake being goofy and Maddie being serious as she hugs him.  These two give a bit of the opposite look for each of them.  I love the old film look to both of them.

Project 365 update

Ah, my 365 project.  It is becoming really enjoyable.  I have an enormous list of ideas and prompts to help me with new ideas and shooting concepts.  So far I haven’t looked at it once so my goal for next week is to start utilizing it.

1st 365 055-365
My  baby girl with her first lazy adult undo.  lol   I think it’s adorable.

1st 365 056-365

An old school beauty shot of a photographer friend of mine.   It was a fabulous day of hanging out with fellow portrait photographers.

1st 365 057-365

My silly boy posing for me in a cowboy hat.  It’s so fun to play with composition and mood in images.

1st 365 058-365

I love this image in which I use lighting completely new for me.   There is so much love and softness expressed here.  It’s also such a huge compliment to be chosen as a photographer when they had to drive an hour and a half each way to come see me.  I can’t wait to see them again for the newborn session when baby girl is born!

1st 365 059-365

The very colorful ingredients to our dinner the other night {not for Guy who ate none of these items} which also had chicken, pitas and hummus.  Blake ate his right up!  Love the kid and his willingness to eat new things and palate for good food.

1st 365 060-365

A boy with a doll.  The twins play equally with toys typical to the their sex and the opposite sex.  The funny thing is that they consider girl toys and colors to belong to Madison and boy toys and colors to belong to Blake.

1st 365 061-365

A little peek into Maddie’s world.  She was standing up on the toy chest on her way to get a stuffed animal when she was distracted by the lady bug on the wall.

1st 365 062-365 / MCP Project 52 3 of 52 / Theme shades of grey

Patterns are always interesting to me. The prompt of shades of grey got me thinking of this particular pattern on our porch furniture.

1st 365 063-365

This was a hard day to choose an image from.  There is one of Blake laying on his belly with his chin in his hands giving me this great relaxed direct look as he watched the train go round and round.  Here he was being silly and collapsed on the floor to let the train crash into him.  I caught it just as the train was about to hit.  Both Madison and I were laughing.

We’re getting ready for another trip {to AZ}!  This hat with NYC on it got me thinking of how fun it would be to take the kids up to New York later this year.

My new camera has arrived!

Today I waited quite impatiently for my camera to arrive.  It didn’t get here until almost 7 pm.  My UPS man comes around 5 pm most delivery days…  Today it was later.  The kids knew I was excited for a delivery this evening.  When they saw him pull into the driveway they came running into the office yelling at the top of their lungs the packages were here.  It was so cute.  Madison also told the UPS guy goodbye no less then 5 times while he made his way from the door back to the truck.  He humored her with a reply a few of those times.

The camera is lovely.  I’m so pleased with it.  The grip is super comfortable, the menu similar to the D200 menu making setting up my preferences a breeze, and I immediately cranked up the ISO to 1000 to see what she would do.  Hmmmm, I’m thinking ‘she’ needs a name.  Any ideas?

The counter I opened up my package on.  There is almost no grain here at ISO 1000.  Can you say love????  This will make home sessions so much more fun with more options in areas without perfect lighting.  There are also those deeply shaded areas I love to photograph in that call for a low light camera and lens.

This is in the dim office light of Blake watching Beauty and the Beast on Guy’s computer.  They love to watch movies in the office while I work and sit on the couch behind him.  It’s a great set up.

Camera for sale!

I have a Nikon D200 camera body for $400.00 plus shipping if not local.    It is about 3-4 years old and was purchased new.  I don’t have the original box, but I’d be happy to put in the box from my newer D200 that I’m keeping.  It has all the accessories except for a battery charger {we had one of the two stop working}.   I’ve been very happy with my D200 cameras and will be upgrading the one I’m selling to the new Nikon D700!   Images of just the body will be coming soon.

Here are a couple images from the kids two year session when they were holding the camera body.

Crafty & new

I will be unavailable by phone until November 28th and will resume normal business hours on November 29th at 9:00 am.  I will be checking & returning emails periodically until then.  Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

During our long drive the last two days I made Blake a crochet newsboy cap in dark grey with baby blue accents along with a scarf.  There is also a little newborn sized hat to use as a photo prop for a boy or girl in the same color along with a matching diaper cover.  If I use it with a girl there will definitely need to be a cute flower to ‘mark’ it as a girly outfit.  The colors definitely make it worth the flower add to make it girly.  I love grey and blue on a girl!  No photos yet, I’m just sharing my recent accomplishments.  Normally, I only pick HUGE projects to attempt on a drive and so don’t feel very accomplished only getting One thing done.  This time I went for smaller projects.

There is an image of Maddie showing off her new newsboy cap and neck wrap {scarf} I made a couple weeks ago.  She is also in front of my new backdrop which I love.  The vintage grungy feel is all the rage right now, and I really think this look will stand the test of time when photographed right.

One of my photographer friends dropped by with her daughter and niece as I was getting ready to capture the hat & wrap on Madison.  More models was perfect!!  Her adorable niece.

Blake was a wild boy with two new friends over so I captured a few of him as his bouncy crazy self.  This kid loves to entertain people.

We put her daughter in a tutu for a few shots.  I love the foot curiosity.

Halloween Rocks!

The special Halloween Mini Session event was so much fun!  All the happy parents with their kids in costume combined with some cool backgrounds with a Halloween feel made it a day to remember.  I’m so excited to offer other special themed mini session events in the future.  My friend, Melissa, is a huge fan of Halloween.  She provided all the decorations used for the fall and scary themed Halloween backdrops.  My favorite was definitely the scary theme.

Our little lady bug cousins.

This little bee is definitely in the right costume.  She was happily buzzing all around.

My favorite image of the day!

My little pirate man, Blake, checking to make sure his awesome costume was on.

His lady pirate sister, Madison, looking gorgeous with her hair decorations.   We had to change her princess dress/costume into a lady pirate so she would be happy since she LOVED his costume.

One of my favorite muses showed up in a sweet costume.  I can’t wait until their December session when she welcomes a baby brother.

My favorite costume of the day!  She has an angelic smile.

This little green bee is cousin to the yellow bee.  I love me a chubby baby with a big grin.

Ahhhhh, the scary background…  Both mom and I love this little mini mouse with her sweet expression in front of the scary background.

The fabulous Melissa who loaned me all the great props.  She is about to welcome a baby boy as well.  There are lots of baby boys being born soon.  Hopefully, we’ll be on the list of parents expecting a boy.  We’d be happy with either, but we think it’s a boy.

Another costume that looks awesome with the scary background.

A full length view of my kids in their costumes.  I love their expressions and how the costumes fit in with the background.  He’s holding up his large puppy like hand {paw} almost like it’s resting on the invisible sward.  She’s a little behind and holding onto his arm looking around for trouble.  Can’t you just imagine it?

For those wondering where my 365 project images are I ended up taking some through the first part of the sickness that has taken over my kids, Guy and I for the last week plus.  I’ve decided to take a two week break from it to make a better plan and let the sickies get outta here!  I’ll post the ones I do have though that were not posted.
